Beneath the Underdog: Miya Bailey

First off, I'd like to say that it is an honor to post about this dude. Not because I had the pleasure of getting a tattoo by him, but because he is one of my many inspirations to continue to follow my dreams. Not only is he part owner of one of the best tattoo parlors(City of Ink) in the world, but because he fits the mold of what The Sovereign Space aims to represent. Independence, and being creative in your own space is what our website and events strive to perfect. Shep, and Chris both have individuals whom they look to for inspiration to accomplish the goals we set as a collective. Miya Bailey happens to be one of mine. Aside from being one of the dopest artist I've had the opportunity to meet, I really connected with his drive and ambition to set a standard of art(not just "black art"...whatever the hell that means) that identifies with people who may not have an "artistic background".

Hopefully, after viewing this video you'll take more pride about what you choose to put on your body.

Also, be sure to check out a new documentary(starring Miya Bailey) on African-American tattoo artist called, Color Outside the Lines(see the video below)
