Late Pass: The Kills.

Thank God for the internet and hipsters. How else would I have found out about indie rock? It was sometime around late last year that I became painfully bored with hip hop and hated just about anything associated with it (mainly skinny jeans). Musically, I was lonely. Sure, I could just return to the "ol' faithfuls" but you know how it is...sometimes you just need some "strange". So anyway, during my pursuit to uncover something that would interest me and actually maintain my attention, I looked to a genre I hadn't taken seriously since plaid flannel shirts, greasy hair and Doc Martens...rock. I'm not talking Kings of Leon, Nickelback rock. I was digging deeper. Enter The Kills. A duo; part British, part American. I was fascinated at first listen. Their songs sound like chants; anthems that are fitted for large outdoor festivals and porta-potties just as much as dank dive bars and Guinness beers. Unknowingly, I started with their 2008 release Midnight Boom and it was enough to keep me interested. So I did my research (read: wikipedia) and found out just what I expected, The Kills weren't a new band, just new to me. They've released four albums since 2002. Their latest release Blood Pressures is what I like to call driving music. A great blend of upbeat, high energy tunes with an appropriate dose of mellow, "I'm in deep thought" at a red light-type songs. Below is the opening song from Blood Pressures and one of my faves.
