I know...I know, it's been a while since my last Top 5 list(at work). For whatever reason, there weren't 5 songs that were being played constantly on my ipod. Prior to last week, I've just been listening to random joints and not really having any favorites. Last week and currently, I've been feasting my ears on a lot of jazz and "easy listening" jams. Probably because it's holiday season and my inner gears begin to fill with mushiness and I become very homesick. The jazz allows me to daydream about family members and friends and how much I miss them. Of course, my list won't be complete with jazz only, but as of late, jazz has been the more dominant genre. Enjoy and get your download on.
J-Live - "Life Comes in Threes"
Among all the jazz I've been vibing to, this one has received the most spins.
Mulatu Astatke - "Assosa"
I'm still working my way through Mulatu's catalog and other Ethiopian jazz artists. Thus far, I'm fully immersed. I highly recommend Mulatu for easy days around the house.
Nicolay - "Departure"
A few weeks ago The Sovereign Space posted a free EP by Nicolay(of The Foreign Exchange). More jazz to help with my daydreaming. Be sure to download this joint. It's FREE!!!!!!
Oddisee - "Mattered Much"
...probably the best instrumental album of the year(in my humble opinion). When I'm sick of the "rat race-ish" attitudes and bushiness of DC, this song(along with my daydreaming) helps to put me in an "SC state of mind".
Pac Div - "She"
This song may seem as a total "curve-ball" compared to the previous songs, and for good reason. It's a total clash, but this is MY top 5 and not yours. The album(Pac Div) just dropped last week, and this is my favorite song. Peep it.
