Jamaal's Top 10 Songs of 2011

Since the launch of The Sovereign Space, I've been listing some of my Top favorites for your enjoyment. As 2011 comes to a close, it's only fitting to list THE BEST SONGS OF THE YEAR(forget those other lists).

#10

My favorite Rock band does not disappoint on their latest album(El Camino), in particular, this one.
Nova Baby

#9

Even though Blu has a tendency to drop an album every week, this one always gets the most play off his No York album.
MYSUNSHINE

#8

Waaaaaaaaay under the radar. I still can't believe I don't hear more people mentioning Fatima. Her latest EP(Follow You) was released this past June. Well worth the loot. This joint rocks!

In true ODD FUTURE fashion, The Internet's first album(Purple Naked Ladies) provides a well arranged middle-fingered album. Some may think this album is totally "left field" compared to previous O.F. joints, however, those people were probably the ones who didn't "get" OFWGKTA from the jump. This is my sheeeeeeiiiiiit!
They Say

What is probably my personal "Album of the Year(1b)" Shakey Graves put out an awesome/on- time piece of work. Unlucky Skin gets high spins on my iPod.

I mean...really? Do I have to speak on this album? One thing is for sure though, Shep, Chris, and myself have analyzed and have related to this album on soooooooo many fronts. My 2nd favorite...Who Loves You More. "Make a living, or have a life" -CLASSIC
Who Loves You More

#4

I'll go ahead and spoil my next "Top" list...the StepKids had THE BEST album in 2011. This is reason #1
Legend in My Own Mind

#3

And still...this EP is in HEAVY ROTATION. I've yet to become bored with these 4 tracks from The Alabama Shakes. You Ain't Alone takes me home every time.
You Ain't Alone

#2

Probably the best arranged/concept hip hop album in the last 15 years. Bold statement...definitely so. However, if Make My doesn't sway you to become a believer, than you're just as hopeless as the mattress above.
Make My

If you were ever a "fly on the wall" as Chris, Shep, and I discuss this album, you would know that all points revert back to this song. At some point in time, ALL men have done exactly what Phonte spits on this jam. Admittance of guilt? Or, Appreciation of truth? Either way, this song will go down as the "Song of the Year". Good. Bad. or, Indifferent.

Honorable Mention:
Kendrick Lamar - Fuck Your Ethnicity
Tyler the Creator - Burger
BOSCO - Beauty and the Stone
Chelsea Wolfe - Demons
Common - Blue Sky
Emily King - Even After
Gods'Illa - Sal's Pizzeria
J*Davey - Topsy Turvy
James Blake - I Never Learnt to Share
Little Dragon - Ritual
Median - Special

...until next year.
