Beneath the Underdog: Iman Omari
It's really tough trying to keep up with new music these days. Even for a music nerd like myself, it's difficult for me to give an aritst or a particular project a fair listen because I'm constantly bombarded with new music. So when my cuz kept mentioning this Iman Omari dude, I filed him in the same place as grading papers (I'm a teacher), getting my oil changed and all the other shit I didn't feel like doing. Luckily, I finally heeded my cousins suggestion, googled Iman Omari and then proceeded to vibe out incessantly for several consecutive hours. The funny thing is, I was already familiar with Omari's sound and didn't even know it. After a little research, I found that he was featured and produced 2 tracks from one of my favorite albums from 2011, A Sucker For Pumps. Iman is musician, and a very talented one at that. He's a part of a new group of artists that are pioneering the electro-soul sound. His music is a fusion of electronic, soul, hip hop and modern jazz. In the video above he touches on the lack of musicianship in today's industry, his plans for the future and what "energy" means. I suggest you get to know Iman Omari.
