For those who've been following us, you may already know that I'm a huge fan of Blu. The majority of the "Top 5" lists I've posted, have at least 1 GodLee Barnes joint in it. At the root of most debates between Shep and myself, I always seem to stand alone as a loyal supporter of this guy's music(Chris is always the happy middle of the road guy). Shep REALLY hates the fact that Blu will relaese un-mastered material, and have the nerve to charge mofos for it(and, not to mention, Blu's lackluster stage performances). I...tend to appreciate the unfiltered and raw approach(except when I'm trying to get in my zone at the gym, but I'm unable to hear the music because Blu thought it'd be a good idea to record under his bed with a muzzle over his mouth).
In my humble opinion(truth), Blu has everything your favorite rapper should have(aside from the lackluster stage performances...many of them):
Flow
Top-tiered beat selection
Verbal content
Creative and intriguing album covers (see the picture above from the unmastered
Madlib'd produced U.C.L.A.)
Story telling
album cohesivenes(well...maybe only 1 album).
To Shep an Chris' credit, Blu will step beyond the box(i.e. do something completely random and f*cking stupid) of creativity for the sake of his independence. Hence, my reason for rocking with dude(aside from the many songs a dig). In today's market, where artists are praised more for what they look like and what they wear, Blu is that antagonistic middle finger to the powers that be, that says the art of rhyming and creating efficient content is a lost cause in mainstream hip hop and society as a whole. It is for this reason I refuse to listen to the radio, and why I'm in joint contribution to this site. Basically, listening to artist like Blu, keeps me from complaining and critiquing or what the "radio heads" would dub as a " being a hater".
Either way, I'll be that...and have my eyes and ears open...fuckery free.
