Leisure with Cariltta...

Carlitta Durand is a gorgeous soul. If you hear her speak about her upcoming album then you'll know why. I'll Be Gorgeous When I Die, her official full length debut is scheduled to be released on August 12th and Carlitta is absorbed in the recording process. On Cinco De Mayo, we sat down at a small cafe in Eastern Market and discussed her life since our last meeting.

When you look into Carlitta's eyes, you can tell that this album is changing her life. According to her, IBGWID, is a departure from what she called her "emo album", Nostalgic Nights. She claims to be in a better place in her life and the sound of IBGWID is reflective of that. She took the time to describe IBGWID as an 'organic' experience that came naturally to her in this time of her life. Most of the album seems to be inspired by day to day life but  the title itself, I'll Be Gorgeous When I Die, was taken from a lyric from a Fleetwood Mac song. Carlitta explains that this album serves as a reminder for what her real purpose in life is, pleasing God. She wants to encourage people to focus more on being happy than living up to the often unrealistic expectations of society. Look for Carlitta to drop the first single from the project next week. In the meantime, support good music and donate a little something to her Kickstarter page.
