BJ the Chicago Kid - "2wice"
If you've been following this new crop of West Coast talent, chances are you've heard BJ the Chicago Kid. He's the 2011 version of Nate Dogg. Although not equipped with the baritone of Nate Dogg, his new millennium Sam Cooke sound has provided memorable hooks for Kendrick Lamar, Pac Div, Dom Kennedy, SchoolBoy Q, Diz Gibran, you name it. He hasn't developed that signature sound that made the late Nate Dogg the go-to guy for hooks, but BJ is certainly on his way. Plus he already has major label experience from working with artists like Mary J, Musiq and even Chris Brown. Recently he covered everyone's favorite Little Dragon song (yes, mines too) "2wice". And it's done well. Very well. The sparse piano driven tune becomes the perfect landscape for BJ to bare his soul about break ups and second chances.
Sidenote: This video was my first encounter with BJ and it still stands as my favorite BJ assist.
