Southern Hospitality: J. Ferb

Being Yo Gotti's cousin doesn't really get you too far in the music industry. That's not the type of connection that could leverage you a meeting with Jay Z or the execs at Def Jam. Now getting a "5 Star Chick" to do nasty things to you in the backseat of a Crown Vic in a club parking lot in Memphis, you might be in business. Fortunately, J. Ferb understands that his cousins connections probably only translate to success within the city limits of Memphis, Tennessee. I saw J. Ferb perform about a year ago when he opened up a show for 2 of my current faves; Dom Kennedy and Curren$y. Chalk it up to the immeasurable amount of hype for seeing Dom and Spitta for the first time, but I dismissed J. Ferb as the typical opening act but actually semi-talented. I eventually got around to "googling" him and discovered some of his work. Let's just say he sounds like nothing else I have ever heard come out of Memphis and he's definitely far from Yo Gotti (no disrespect, I actually like Yo Gotti). I really like this kid. His accent is unapologetically Southern and he has a knack for picking the perfect beat for his fluid, stream of consciousness style. I found out via twitter a few days ago that's he's gearing up to release his new mixtape Point of No Return. Which is why I think now is the perfect time to introduce Sovereign Space followers to J. Ferb. Below are two of my favorites from the Memphis rapper. Be on the lookout for Point of No Return
