Southern Hospitality: King Mez

Do people still associate Petey Pablo with North Carolina music? I sure hope not. For all the damage that Petey Pablo did to NC's rep, Little Brother certainly made up for it. With LB officially separated and working on individual projects, J. Cole has been thrusted into national spotlight as the torch bearer for the state of North Carolina. Outside of J. Cole, and the work 9th Wonder is doing with Jamla records, NC hasn't been getting much attention (not unless you count Fantasia's pregnancy). But when one door closes, another one opens. King Mez is looking to walk in. The Raleigh rapper released his Khyrsis assisted collaborative EP earlier this year. The King's Khrysis is a great introduction to the young North Carolinian. He sounds fresh and eager. He still has plenty of room for improvement as some of his lines seem a bit forced and awkwardly placed, but his energy certainly makes up for it. Down below is an in studio performance of  the albums opener, "Reaching Out".
