Jamaal's Top 5: iPod repeats (while at work) Pt. 2

These are my top 5 songs that I listen to the most(at work) over the past couple of weeks. As my moods change, my tolerance and tastes shift as well. One week I'm "thugged out in all black"or "poppin' a top". Either way, these songs get me through the day and help keep my sanity for 8 hours.

Gods'illa - "Sal's Pizzeria"
Ever since Goodie Mob stopped recording, Gods'illa has filled that void. I have become a huge fan of these brothers because any group that can, equally, balance(yet, still provide an abundance of both)gangster/hood sh%t with knowledge of self and speaking on the importance of taking responsibility and learning from life lessons is cool with me. Many times groups(as well as solo artists) manage to get locked into one dynamic and never manage to deviate from that. Being that I get the feeling Gods'illa only speaks of what they know and live, it translates as content that can be identified with and much more authentic. One of my favorite joints from 2011(along with many others from them) has managed to get numerous repeats on the touch. Aside from Do the Right Thing(refer to the title of the song, then recall the movie characters, and make the connection) being one of my favorite movies of all time, the chorus on this song, to me, is hard as f%ck!!!!! Gods'illa is definitely in a lane opposite of most groups today.
If only in a perfect world, kids would rock to joints like this on the radio. One day...

Martin Luther - "Know It's Me"
I first got wind of Martin Luther in the Summer of 2004. I attended a Roots show in Charlotte, and he was the "5th Beatle" for that time. Since then, he's managed to drop(in my opinion) an underground classic: Rebel Soul Music. Recently, he has released another album(full length) that aims(and seems) to be just as good. I've been playing his song everyday for the past two weeks(usually immediately after my 12 noon lunch). Smooth as Jameson and cranberry, yet rugged enough to be played while riding in a box-Chevy Caprice sittin' on 'dem thangs!!!!!(forgive me, for I am from South Carolina)

The Ramones - "Let's Go"

There's no particular reason why I've been playing this song lately. I guess it keeps me in a rebellious state of mind(not to be taken literally) so that I don't settle for the conformity of a "9 to 5".
I do have dreams, ya know?

The Black Keys - "Busted"

This song probably should have been on the last list. The Black Keys are not only my favorite band, but "Busted" is my favorite song by them. Because I'm soooo bored out of my mind with rap(aside from the ones mentioned on our site), I have dove head first into the world of Folk/Bluegrass/Blues. For many reasons this is the case, but mostly because it's(Folk/Blues) a lost art form among African-Americans(mainly in the South) that should be revisited by those under the age of 40. However, aside from my mini race-card rant, The Black Keys have an authentic sound that I have never(at least not yet, after 4 years) gotten tired of.

Blu - "What u Wanna"
Yes, I'm still bored with rap, but there are a handful of emcess who manage to keep my attention. All my close friends should know by now, Blu is the new lyrical king(according to yours truly). Samples of Blue Note jazz covers, word play similar to(and reminiscent of GZA, O.C, Mos, and many others) your favorite mid-90s emcess, and refraining from the norm(s) (according to music industry execs); and not to mention a quality catalog of music that grows, seemingly, bi-weekly. Oddly enough, there is no other way to describe GodLeeBarnes.
What u Wanna is not my favorite, but it closes in at third place(stay tuned). For hip hop fans, this joint has everything you need: beat, etc, etc. No need to speak on this one too much, just play it!!!!!
